Welcome to UNREAL Rugby League in the NT
By Tony Crowe 11 Apr, 2024
If their socks are green, they are under 18' initiative mirrors the recent announcement by Queensland Rugby League and aims to create a positive environment for all Match Officials under the age of 18 in the Northern Territory Referees in this age group wear green socks to signify their age and status. The initiative advocates for treating our young referees with respect, refraining from abuse, and understanding that they are still learning, just like the players. By creating a supportive environment, under the NRL NT Our House program the campaign aims to enhance the experience for young referees and contribute to their development in officiating rugby league matches. The three-step initiative puts the responsibility on all participants and spectators to meet "Our House Rules" . As part of the program; Players, Referees, Club Officials and Spectators are considered “Family” who share a zone that won’t tolerate Swearing, Bullying and Harassment. With the support of the Northern Territory Government all clubs across the territory will display posters outlining the right behaviours when entering a NRL NT venue to watch or participate in any rugby league event sanctioned by NRL NT. "The basis for this campaign is to support our clubs to provide the right environment for everyone to enjoy our game," New General Manager Tony Crowe said "We want everyone involved in rugby league locally to enjoy their experience when participating in our game on and off the field. " To do this, we need our community to know what’s acceptable and not acceptable when it comes to behaviour." "Our Goal with this is to Educate. "Rugby league is a passionate game and there is nothing better than the support all of our boys and girls get on a weekend, but we need to extend this and keep that support positive and focus on encouraging the person you are there to support." The Our House campaign is based on three steps as follows: 1. Visuals: Posters with key messages will be displayed at grounds. 2. Audio messaging: Voiceovers will be played throughout match days at each venue. 3. Positive reinforcement: Ensuring all fans who attend a match in “Our House Rules” are aware of the rules and act accordingly. By creating a supportive environment, under the NRL NT Our House program the campaign aims to enhance the experience for young referees and contribute to their development in officiating rugby league matches.
