Tony Crowe • October 8, 2024

RISE Program provides aspirational Junior Rugby League players and coaches with an avenue to obtain specialised training and education through a holistic Rugby League development experience.

NRL Northern Territory is currently looking for expressions of interest for Managers and Coaches to join the Off Season Westpac RISE Rookie Program for 16's to 18's Boys in 2024/25.

As part of the NRL’s plan to build the 2025 U18’s Combined Affiliated States & Territory team (NT, SA, WA, VIC), each (CAS only) state and Territory will be running a RISE Rookie Offseason Program, consisting of 9 field and gym sessions and a trial game between November and March 2025.

Upon completion of the program, players will be assessed on their abilities, testing results, commitment and training performance, with up to 7 players being given the opportunity to attend 3 camps and a trial in Melbourne, as part of the selection process into the CAS team attending the Australian Secondary Schoolboys Championships in July 2025.

To support providing high level coaching, a professional environment and a positive player experience, we are looking for knowledgeable and enthusiastic Coaches and Managers to lead and support delivering the RISE Rookie Coaching model to the playing group, with an open mind on personal development.

Training dates will be as per below, with each session taking place at the CDU Gym and Field in Casuarina from 5:00pm to 6:30pm.

  • 20th November - Session 1 CDU
  • 27th November - Session 2 CDU
  • 4th December - Session 3 CDU
  • 8th January - Session 4 Game TRLS
  • 15th January - Session 5 CDU
  • 22nd January - Session 6 CDU Gym/Skills
  • 19th February - Session 7 CDU Gym/Skills
  • 26th February - Session 8 CDU Gym/Skills
  • 5th March - Session 9 CDU Gym/Skills

Supported by Australian Government , the RISE Program provides aspirational Junior Rugby League players and coaches with an avenue to obtain specialised training and education through a holistic Rugby League development experience

Katherine and Alice Springs players also have the opportunity to join this program and will be provided with more details on their inclusion upon registering. Coaches may also have the opportunity to attend remote training sessions and work with the local playing group.

The Territory Junior Championships were introduced in 2024 aimed at creating more opportunities to play our game locally at regional representative level of participation to support inspirational Players, Coaches, Sports Trainers, Team Managers and Match Officials. By providing this regional structure focussed on bringing people together in a more challenging environment will assist NRL NT in delivering greater personal and professional development for people within rugby league both on and off the field for all involved. This process will also be integrated into the RISE programs currently available and importantly improve how we select our NT Titans teams and how they prepare to compete at specific Australian Secondary Schools Rugby League National Championships instead of the current gap between local club football and direct into a far greater level of national representative systems. This development structure is inline with all other States & Territories except Tasmania as South Australia are now included in all NRL Victoria pathway programs. Last year 3 Regions were created to represent their local schools and clubs at the inaugural event from Darwin City, Southern Heat and Katherine Cowboys with long term plans to include a Central Australia platform to support Alice Springs, Tennent Creek and ideally Gove focussed on providing access to such an opportunity for more Northern Territorian people. Without confirming just yet we are working closely with the new Gove United Rugby League administration and local government officials hopeful of their inclusion this year. As our goal for this NRL NT initiative is to create greater access to this level of experience through rugby league engaging more people and deliver a true whole of Northern Territory Representative culture.
